Neuroscience Ireland was established
in 2005 as Ireland’s National Neuroscience Society, and
replaced the Irish Neuroscience Group, which had been a more
informal gathering of Irish neuroscientists. The aim of the
Society is to advance research and education in the neurosciences
in Ireland, and to represent Irish neuroscience researchers
both nationally and internationally. Neuroscience Ireland has
a membership in the region of 200 scientists and clinicians,
and represents Ireland on the Governing Council of the Federation
of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS).
The annual meeting of Neuroscience Ireland is held in September
each year, and serves as a multidisciplinary forum for knowledge
and expertise sharing, thereby facilitating excellence in neuroscience
research in Ireland. The annual meeting is also used to showcase
the high quality neuroscience research being conducting in Ireland
to international colleagues, and to interested parties from
the Pharmaceutical, Biotech and Medical devices industries.
We encourage you to attend the 2011 annual meeting will be held
in NUI, Maynooth on September 1st and 2nd. In addition to holding
an annual meeting, Neuroscience Ireland has sponsored/co-hosted
a range of international meetings and symposia on various aspects
of Neuroscience (eg) British Neuroscience Association, Harrogate,
2007; Wiring the Brain, Limerick, 2009; PsychoNeuroImmunology
Research Society, Dublin, 2010; Wiring the Brain, Wicklow, 2011.
In order to promote Irish neuroscience research at international
meetings, Neuroscience Ireland offers travel bursaries to its
postgraduate or postdoctoral members. The promotion of education
in the neurosciences including outreach to the general public
is also a goal of Neuroscience Ireland, and is facilitated by
public lectures and symposia.
